This lasagna recipe is a hearty and flavorful dish, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Preheating ensures even cooking from the start.
In a skillet, cook the ground beef, sausage, and onion over medium heat until browned. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
Drain excess fat for a less greasy sauce.
Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Simmering allows the flavors to meld together.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley.
Mix until smooth for an even layer.
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
This prevents the noodles from sticking.
Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by a third of the cheese mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the remaining meat sauce. Repeat layers twice.
Press down gently to compact the layers.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Removing the foil allows the top to brown.
Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Resting helps the layers set for cleaner slices.
